Petaluma Points Race #3 – “Un-faithful”

A tough decision was to be made later last week. Kirk was given the word that his motor was not going to be done due to crankshaft problems. The #48k car stayed parked for the 3rd points race in a row. It was very disappointing to us all. But after back and fourth discussion about Kirk possibly driving the #84 car for the attending Civil War Series race at Petaluma Speedway, it was finally agreed that Klint would step out of the car for the coming race and Kirk would run.

With the attending Civil War Series, there was a total of 40 sprints. Acting up as usual, the #84 car qualified in the back of the field. Kirk started eighth in the second heat race, finishing sixth.

Being placed into the B-Main the #84 car ran about five laps and then pulled off due to more mechanical problems. If you haven’t noticed a pattern yet, this car is very tempermental. Although finishing 2nd place in points during Kirk’s rookie season running 360′s, with this car, it has proven to be one moody car the following seasons.

We are not sure what the season holds for us, but what is frustrating is that Kirk hasn’t had the best luck to continue to run and improve consistantly like he should. What he can control he has, watching out for his car, thus other’s on the track as well, and not adding more un-nessecary expenses by being wrecklessly impatient.

The team did enjoy watching the A-main and were impressed by the driving ability of Sean Becker and Willie Croft. Croft who added to the crowd pleasing race through battling with leader, Becker and finishing second place.

In the end we can all have motor, but what seperates the truly skilled from the rest is the ability to maintain and consistantly run a smooth line. On Sarurday is was easy to see who really had that skill and who just had motor.

Petaluma Points Race #2

A not too out of the blue report for “Old Faithful” on Saturday at Petaluma Speedway. Other than it acted up as usual during the beginning of the day. The team made it down around 2pm to give as much time as needed if the car didn’t want to live up to it’s name. But truthfully, it has a hard time not being moody.

Klint missed hot laps while the team tweaked around with the car. With help from friends, Klint was able to get the blue #84 sprint out on the track for a great Heat Race. There was again, no qualifying and a pill draw decided where Klint started in the heat. Starting last, Klint took”Old Faithful” around adding more seat time under his belt and finished fourth.

Klint started in the second to last row next to the #3x sprint. During the first lap a red flag came out involving the #6c and #6r cars. The next eight laps Klint moved up to fourth place. The second red came out after the #7b car took a hard tumble. While in fourth place, Klint’s brakes and right rear shock went out, putting him back to 6th placeAll in all we are happy that the car ran and Klint was able to get out and enjoy the race.

Klint would like give a special thank you to brother Kirk for doing an awesome set-up on the #84 car, Brian Azevedo and Kurt for their help to get the dino going!

New Paint Job!

The hood, tail-tank and side panels came home from Thorsson’s with a fresh coat of red and silver paint. But with an added “bling” touch. Kirk is going to fit in with all the bass boats out there, with his new metal flake paint.

Klint’s car is going to be a metal flake blue and will be done soon.

Kirk decided the trailer needed an overhaul before the season started. Tim added a fresh coat of paint to the inside, rhino-lining to the floor and carpet to the lower portion of the walls. The trailer will be finished off with diamond plating and new cabinets.

A productive weekend for SM. We’re looking forward to the racing season.
